This past week, Scarlett Johansson, the famous 29 year old actress, has responded to criticism over becoming a spokesman for the Israeli company SodaStream, which faces heavy calls for boycott around the world for having operations in the West Bank. SodaStream is one of the premier targets for BDS activists, particularly because the company operates a factory within the West Bank in Ma’ale Adumim, ignoring the fact that they employ over a 1000 Palestinians, double the average income for Palestinians, and have built an on-site mosque for them to worship.

Scarlett Johansson was facing extreme criticism from the BDS activists over her recent ad campaign for SodaStream that is to appear during the Super Bowl in February, and for becoming the first “global brand ambassador” for SodaStream. Bravo to her, for managing to not give in to the propaganda that she must have been exposed to and to protracting her own research. Most celebrities just step aside and wait for the storm to calm when something like this happens, but Scarlett Johansson has come out publicly showing her support for the company and for making a bold statement on the situation.

I remain a supporter of economic cooperation and social interaction between a democratic Israel and Palestine,” said Johansson. “SodaStream is a company that is not only committed to the environment but to building a bridge to peace between Israel and Palestine, supporting neighbors working alongside each other, receiving equal pay, equal benefits and equal rights

We applaud you Ms. Johansson for sticking to your principles and what is right.
