Belgian singer Natacha Atlas who publicly spoke of Jewish roots in her family, was born to a father of Moroccan, Egyptian and Palestinian ancestry and to a British mother converted to Islam, now serving as Goodwill Ambassador for UN Conference against Racism, announced on September 28 she wouldn’t perform in Israel “until this systemized apartheid is abolished once and for all”. The news didn’t receive much coverage, including in French-speaking media, where it was only relayed by a pro-Palestinian blog.
